“When a person dies, all their deeds end except three: a continuing charity, beneficial knowledge and a child who prays for them,” (Hadith, Muslim).
Therefore, Muslims are eager to give charity which will continue to have benefits people after their death and continue to earn the rewards.
Muhammad (ﷺ), said:
"When a man ( leave this world ) dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased)." (Muslim)
Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), said,
“Protect yourself from hell-fire even by giving a piece of date as charity.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
“Charity does not in any way decrease the wealth and the servant who forgives, Allah adds to his respect; and the one who shows humility, Allah elevates him in the estimation (of the people).” (Muslim)
Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said,
“Do not show lethargy or negligence in giving alms and charity till your last breath.” - (Bukhari and Muslim).
Is charity a Sunnah?
Quran ... Sadaqat means to give alms and also legal alms for which the word zakat is used in the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad. Zakat has been called sadaqat because it is also a kind of compulsory charity. It is an obligatory sadaqa while ordinary sadaqa is voluntary.
Who is not eligible for Zakat money?
To be eligible to receive zakat, the recipient must be poor and/or needy. A poor person is someone whose property, in excess of his basic requirements, does not reach the nisab threshold. The recipient must not belong to your immediate family; your spouse, children, parents, and grandparents cannot receive your zakat.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “The believer’s shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity.” (Tirmidhi)
The Prophet said: “Your smile for your brother is a charity. Your removal of stones, thorns or bones from the paths of people is a charity. Your guidance of a person who is lost is a charity” (Bukhari).
"Worship none but Allah. treat with kindness your parents and kindred, and orphans and those in need; speak fair to the people; be steadfast in prayer; and practice regular charity" (2:83).
"Be steadfast in prayer and regular in charity. Whatever good you send forth for your souls before you, you shall find it with Allah. For Allah sees well all that you do" (2:110).
