Earn Good Deeds While Drinking Water

Water is the biggest blessing of Allah. We always need to thank Allah for this blessing. We know that water is the most important source of living. We drink water every day but do you know that as a Muslim you can earn good deeds while drinking water? Let's know it. Whenever you drink water follow these to earn deeds,

  • Say 'Bimillah Ar-Rahmaan Ar-Raheem' before drinking water

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "When commencing to drink first recite Bismillah." (Hadith Tirmidhi). By this act, we actually praise The Almighty Allah, who gave us water to drink without which nobody can survive on earth.

  • Sit before drinking the water

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "Sit down and drink." (Hadith Muslim) and also said: "None of you should drink while standing; and if anyone forgets, he must vomit."

  • Drink with the right hand

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, "Never eat and drink with the left hand because Shaytaan (Satan) eats with the left hand." (Sahi Muslim : 5008)

  • Drink water in more than 1 breath

It is prohibited to drink water in a single gulp, an act that we normally do when we are extremely thirsty. Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, "Do not drink water only in one breath, but drink it in two or three breaths."

  • Do not breathe while drinking water

Abdullah Bin Abbas (Radi Allahu anhuma) narrates the Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Do not blow from your mouth into food and water." (Sahi Bukhari : 5630)

  • Recite 'Alhamdulillah' after drinking water

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said: "Recite 'Bismillah' before drinking and say 'Alhamdulillah' after drinking." This act is performed to praise The Almighty Allah for blessing us with water; colorless, odorless, tasteless yet the most important drink on the whole earth.

When you perform these acts upon the Saying of our Beloved Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), Allah will surely grant you reward for following the sunnah and doing whatever our Allah and Holy Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) had said.
