Forced marriage is not allowed in Islam. Both the groom and the bride must consent to the marriage. The consent of the woman is essential and must be obtained, and any marriage which is forced is considered to be batil or void.
It has not given parents the authority to compel them [to marry someone]. The parent's role in marrying off their children is manifested in giving advice, direction, and guidance; they do not have the right to force their children, whether they are sons or daughters, to marry someone they do not want to marry. It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "The guardian has no right (to force) the previously married woman (into a marriage). And an orphan girl should be consulted, and her silence is her approval." ( Sunan an-Nasa'i : 3263 )
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "A previously married woman should not be married until her permission has been sought, and a virgin should not be married until her consent is sought." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, how does she give her permission?" He said: "Her permission is if she keeps silent." ( Sunan an-Nasa'i: 3265 )
Forcing children to marry the one whom they don't like, was not allowed in Islam. Islam gives full rights to children to choose the right spouses for themselves.
